Welcome to the Chester Shrewsbury Rail Partnership

As a member of the Community Rail Network, our aim is to promote a thriving railway that enriches and empowers the lives of people living and working in our local communities. Through our engagement and collaboration with rail users, train operators, local authorities and funding partners, we actively contribute to the development of an accessible and sustainable railway that creates opportunities to drive economic growth and social prosperity within our locality.

We act as a vital link between the local community and railway, ensuring employment, education, healthcare and leisure can be readily and inclusively accessed. Our cross-border railway spans 85 miles and travels through three counties, which all feature bustling towns, must-see landmarks and spectacular scenery. From the ancient Roman city of Chester, the route passes into Wrexham, North Wales and on through the Welsh Marches before arriving at medieval Shrewsbury. The railway is popular with commuters working along the link and those seeking easy links to larger cities in the Northwest and Midlands. Some of the region’s best shops, restaurants and bars can be found en route, whilst many day trippers and leisure enthusiasts benefit from an excellent choice of rural stops along the way.

As an active and highly accredited community rail partnership, we work tirelessly to improve the accessibility and aesthetics of our stations whilst maintaining an inclusive environment for all. This continuous development is only possible thanks to the collaborative efforts of our community groups, local authorities, funding partners, the Welsh Government and rail industry.

Your health and wellbeing matters

During the global pandemic, people of all ages were cut off from the physical ties they traditionally shared with their communities. Year-long restrictions resulted in many suffering from loneliness and isolation. As the nation’s vaccine programme continues to roll out and society begins to embrace a new sense of normality, the railway will be once again be offering the people of our community a safe and healthy way to regain freedom and independence. When restrictions allow, we look forward to you optimising the full potential of the network. We will be working hard to link you to loved ones, longed for leisure activities and the workplace.
